MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

The Michigan Association of Recovery Community Organizations (MARCO) unites and supports organizations across Michigan that are dedicated to advancing recovery through peer-led, community-based services. Membership in MARCO connects organizations to a statewide network of recovery leaders, advocates, and partners working together to strengthen Michigan’s recovery ecosystem.

MARCO offers two membership categories to reflect the diverse ways organizations engage in this work:

VOTING MEMBERSHIP - CERTIFIED RCOs

Voting Membership is available to Recovery Community Organizations (RCOs) that have achieved certification through MARCO or hold active national accreditation from the Alliance for Recovery Centered Organizations (ARCO) through Faces & Voices of Recovery.

Certified RCOs are:

  • Independent, nonprofit, peer-led organizations providing non-clinical recovery support services.
  • Guided by MARCO’s Core Organizational Beliefs and commitment to multiple pathways to recovery.
  • Active participants in statewide advocacy, education, and systems-change initiatives.

Voting Members receive:

  • Full voting rights within MARCO governance, including board elections and policy decisions.
  • Eligibility for leadership roles on committees and advisory groups.
  • Access to exclusive training, technical assistance, and collaboration opportunities.
  • Recognition as a MARCO-Certified Recovery Community Organization, demonstrating adherence to the highest standards of peer-led practice.
AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP - SUPPORTING ORGANIZATIONS

Affiliate Membership is available to organizations, coalitions, initiatives, and partners that share MARCO’s mission but are not seeking certification as a Recovery Community Organization.

Affiliate Members may include:

  • Advocacy groups, state or local government organizations, treatment providers, or systems-level partners that support recovery.

Affiliate Members receive:

  • Access to MARCO trainings, events, and statewide networking opportunities.
  • Inclusion in communication channels, newsletters, and collaborative projects.
  • Opportunities to partner with certified RCOs on initiatives that strengthen Michigan’s recovery infrastructure.

Affiliate members are non-voting and not eligible for governance roles but play a vital role in advancing collaboration, visibility, and shared learning across Michigan’s recovery network.
